About Us
It’s Not About the High…
Using medicinal cannabis does not have to be what you experienced in college. It can be, if you choose to use high doses of THC dominant strains, but at low to moderate doses, it’s an amazing regulator of pain, inflammation, mood, and spasticity. Cannabis promotes anti-tumor activity, modulates pancreatic and thyroid function, is effective against Hepatits C, and is a safe and effective treatment for arthritis, neck and back pain, muscle spasms, anxiety, depression, and insomnia. These are just a few of the benefits patients experience without the harmful side effects of often-used pharmaceuticals.
Takoma Park Alternative Care offers medical marijuana evaluations for adults and minors, to determine eligibility for the Maryland Medical Cannabis Program.
Takoma Park Alternative Care strives to provide compassionate and individualized service in a quiet and discreet setting. The physician takes the time to properly educate patients on what to expect, pros and cons, dosage, strain/product recommendation, methods of consumption, and possible side effects and drug interactions. Many conditions such as chronic pain syndromes due to degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, psoriatic, gouty, and osteoarthritis, diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia; severe migraines, Crohn’s disease, IBS and hepatitis C are only but a few of the conditions that benefit from medicinal cannabis therapy. Patients under the age of 18, if accompanied by a parent or guardian, can be evaluated for conditions that would justify the use of medicinal cannabis, such as, but not limited to, intractable seizures and migraines, chronic pain syndromes, cancer related pain and palliative care. The office is conveniently located in Takoma Park (close to the DC line and Takoma Metro.) in Montgomery County.
Patricia Frye M.D., who is highly experienced in the medical benefits and therapeutic effects of medicinal cannabis, heads Takoma Park Alternative Care. She is an independent physician consultant with a focus on medical cannabis and the role it plays in the management of chronic pain, inflammation, autoimmunity, spasticity and overall improvement on the quality of life in chronic and debilitating medical conditions. Dr. Frye has worked closely with patients and referring clinicians to develop sound treatment plans and dosing regimens. Many chronic pain patients have been able to wean or discontinue long term use of opiates/narcotics, muscle relaxants, and benzodiazepines.
Dr. Frye is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine where she earned her medical degree and completed her pediatric residency. She then went on to Baylor College of Medicine where she completed a fellowship year in anesthesiology. There she gained experience in critical care, medical pain management and pain management procedures. Dr. Frye has furthered her education by means of extensive independent study, and has gained an appreciable understanding of how the various components of the cannabis plant, phytocannabinoids and terpenes, interact and the role they play in the modulation of pain and other chronic conditions.
